The Families Connected Speaker Series is now available as a virtual event! Join Beach Cities Health District and South Bay Families Connected for “The Journey – A Conversation About Mental Health in New, Uncertain Times” with professional surfer Alex Gray and local clinician Kevin Sousa, MFT.

As a professional surfer for almost 20 years, Alex Gray has traveled the world using surfing as the bond between adventure, culture, and connection. Alex will share his experiences and insights on anxiety to help build confidence in teens by focusing on their own purpose and passions. Alex has reached over 10,000 students throughout the South Bay with his message of resilience and self care as part of the SBFC Vaping Prevention tour.

In addition to his private practice, Kevin Sousa, MFT, is the Program Director of the Jimmy Miller Foundation. His lifetime of mentoring, coaching and teaching has focused on assisting people through the rigidity and/or chaos of life. His gift of inspiring others comes through in the music he produces and performs with his band, Kevin Sousa Band. In this talk, Kevin will share valuable insight resulting from his personal experiences, and helpful tools that have proven beneficial to his clients. For more about Kevin, please read South Bay magazine’s article, With Music, Compassion and Community, Kevin Sousa Turns Struggle into Salvation.

The meeting will be hosted on a virtual platform Thursday, April 30 from 6:30-8 p.m. The online meeting information will be directly emailed to registered participants.

All South Bay parents, tweens and teens are welcome to join us at this virtual event!

We’re all in this together!

The Families Connected Speaker Series is provided in partnership with South Bay Families Connected and Beach Cities Health, and is co-sponsored by the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, the Redondo Beach Unified School District, and the Hermosa Beach City School District. We thank leadership at all three districts for their guidance in the selection of speaker series topics and presenters, as well as for generously housing the majority of the Speaker Series events.

Together we also offer a weekly parent support group, the Families Connected Parent Chat. led by Dr. Moe Gelbart of the Thelma McMillen Center.
