Since 2015, South Bay Families Connected (SBFC) has seven as a vital community resource empowered parents and teens with evidence-based prevention tools, education on trending topics, and authentic community stories. By reducing stigma and fostering deep connections, we champion youth mental health and work to decrease underage substance use. Together with our dedicated supporters, volunteers, and partners, we are building a stronger, healthier South Bay community.

  • Key outcomes in 2025

    • Between 2022 to 2025, there has been a nearly 30% decrease in drug related overdoses, with over a 40% drop in fentanyl across all age groups (California Department Health Services).

    • Annual national and state surveys indicate that teen substance use reached low points during the pandemic and has not rebounded, remaining flat or declining through 2025 (California Department Health Services)

    • Recent data shows that suicide deaths among young people ages 15 to 24 dropped by 8% in California since 2021 (Ed Source)..

  • 30,000 visitors to our online youth wellness programming and resources

  • 41 Families Connected topic-driven webpages updated with new youth wellness content, including videos, blogs and trusted resources

  • 16 in-person partnered community education events, including:

  • Parent workshop: Understanding the Anxious Generation (partnered with Fusion Academy)

  • E-Bike Safety: A Parent's Guide (partnered with E-Bike Sense and Beach Cities Health District)

  • Recognizing Signs of Emotional Distress in Youth and Providing Supportive Solutions (partnered with Fusion Academy)

  • 8 school-requested, on-campus youth wellness talks, provided by SBFC’s Outreach Coordinator, Kelly Hendrickson, R.N.

  • 10 Families Connected Parent Chat support group virtual meetings

  • 1 new topic covered on website - e-bike safety

  • A revitalized Youth Advisory, now 23 members strong

  • Ongoing engagement and guidance from the Families Connected Parent Advisory, 11 members

We are also happy to report our consistent ability to reach parents and drive engagement through production of our informative and free Families Connected newsletter, through our social media, and via our numerous long-term and new community partnerships.
